📣 CHICAGO — I’m coming your way! Let’s talk about Body Grief, healing, and the complicated love we have for our bodies.
I’m thrilled to share that the next leg of the This is Body Grief book tour is bringing me to the Chicago area for two powerful, public events—and I’d love nothing more than to see you there.
Whether you're local to the suburbs or you live right in the city, you’re invited. Bring a friend. Bring your mom. Bring your group chat. Bring someone who’s navigating a body that feels different than it used to. Because these events aren’t just about a book—they’re about building a space for compassionate, unifying conversations around the grief that comes when our bodies change, shift, or feel like they’ve betrayed us.
✨ Event 1: Anderson’s Bookshop – Downers Grove
📍 5112 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL, USA
📅 Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025
⏰ 6:00 PM CT
🎟 $34 (includes a signed copy of This is Body Grief)

This will be an evening of warmth, reflection, and honest conversation in one of Illinois’ most beloved independent bookstores. I’ll be reading from This is Body Grief, sharing stories, and opening the floor for a community Q&A. We’ll explore what it means to live in a body that doesn’t always cooperate—and how grief, when held with care, can actually lead us to deeper healing and connection.
✨ Event 2: Three Avenues Bookshop – Chicago (Lakeview)
📍 3009 North Southport Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657
📅 Friday, April 25th, 2025
⏰ 6:00 PM CT
🎟 Free to attend, RSVP required

This cozy Friday night event is for all of us who’ve ever asked, Why is my body like this? I’ll be in conversation with you—my readers, my community—as we unpack what it means to mourn who we thought we’d be, to honor our present reality, and to move forward with gentleness. We’ll laugh, cry (maybe), reflect, and hold each other up. And of course, I’ll be signing books and hugging (consensually!) after.
These events are for:
The disabled folks and chronically ill babes
The caregivers and clinicians trying to hold space for others
The family members and best friends who want to understand better
The people grieving their past bodies, or afraid of where their body might be headed
And honestly… anyone with a body
At the heart of This is Body Grief is this truth: Your pain is valid. Your grief is worthy. Your body is not the problem.
Come sit in a room where we say those things out loud. Together.
🌟 If you can’t make it, please consider sending this post to someone who can. These conversations aren’t just for disabled folks—they’re for everyone who’s ever struggled to love themselves in a body that’s hard to live in. Let’s fill these rooms with love, learning, and radical compassion.
Can’t wait to see you soon, Chicago 💌
With Gratitude,
Jayne
