If you’re new here—welcome!
If you found me through my recent WGN radio interview (hi, hello, love that for us), I’m so glad you’re here. Huge thanks to WGN and Wendy Snyder for having me on—it was such a great conversation. (And if you missed the interview, you can listen to it [here]
Let’s start with this: Have you ever felt like your body has betrayed you? Maybe in small ways—a twisted ankle at the worst possible moment, a migraine that ruined your plans, a stomach that refuses to cooperate before a big event. Or maybe in much bigger ways—a chronic illness diagnosis, an injury that changed everything, a body that doesn’t move or function the way the world expects it to. That feeling? That frustration, sadness, loss? That’s Body Grief. And it’s real.
I know, because I’ve lived it. And I wrote a whole book about it.
This is Body Grief is for anyone who has ever felt at odds with their own body. It’s for the people who have had to mourn the life they thought they’d have, the abilities they once relied on, or the simple ease of existing without pain, fatigue, or limitations. But it’s also a book about hope. About finding a way forward, not by ignoring the grief, but by honoring it. Because healing isn’t about fixing what’s "broken"—it’s about making peace with what is.
And the best part? This is Body Grief is out now! You can grab a copy wherever books are sold—your local bookstore, online retailers, or wherever you love to buy books. (And if you’ve already read it, leaving a review on Goodreads or Amazon helps so much—truly, it’s one of the best ways to support authors.)
If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll stick around. We’ll be talking about all of it—disability, body image, access, joy, pop culture (because yes, I can and will connect a Taylor Swift lyric to disability rights), and the weird, winding journey of learning to live inside a body that doesn’t always play by the rules.
So tell me: What does Body Grief mean to you? Hit reply, leave a comment, or just sit with the question for a bit. I’m so glad you’re here.
With Gratitude,
Jayne
love this Jayne and may have to tap in with your book. pretty sure i found you after my autoimmune disease diagnosis and I really feel like you really got to the heart of the body grief (for me.) feeling like your body just turned against you and then dealing with the various ways this may present itself.
